Industry Panel

The CMU INFORMS Chapter hosted three alumni currently working with the Amazon Modeling and Optimization (MOP) Group. Dr. Amitabh Sinha was a tenured professor of Operations at Michigan Ross and is currently Senior manager of research science at Amazon. Cristiana Lara and Qi Chen are former students of Prof. Ignacio Grossmann in Chemical Engineering. Cristiana and Qi currently hold a senior research scientist and research scientist position at Amazon. The alumni held a discussion on the salient features of a career in industry and reflected on their time in academia. Those in attendance had an interactive discussion with current PhD students regarding their time in academia, key habits that lead to a successful career in industry, transitioning from a research position in academia to industry, and much more! We look forward to many more fruitful discussions with alumni from CMU who graciously share their experiences with current students.
